What supporting documents are required?

Do I need to submit a C.V. or a personal statement?
The submission of a C.V. or a personal statement is optional. You may submit one if you deem fit.
Do I need to provide reference letters in support of my application?
The submission of reference letter is not mandatory. You may submit one if you deem fit.
Would my referee(s) receive email notifications to submit reference letters?
If you have provided the information of your referee(s)’ on the application form, an email notification will be sent to your referee(s) the next day after you have completed the application.
Is GRE / GMAT required for the MSc(AI) programme?
GRE / GMAT is not required for MSc(AI). You may provide the relevant information if you deem fit.
Do I need to post the original copy of the supporting documents after submitting an application?
Posting of document is NOT required at the application stage. Should an applicant be shortlisted for admission, they will receive an email notification from the Faculty Office regarding the submission of required supporting documents. The specific documents may vary, subject to applicants’ individual qualifications. The Faculty will verify the authenticity of all original copies received by consulting with the awarding institutes and examination authorities towards the end of the admissions cycle.
Can I amend my application after submission?
You cannot amend your application after submission. Therefore, please ensure that you have input all the details accurately before submitting your application.
What should I do if I cannot upload my documents to the online system?
Please note that you can only upload your supporting documents within 4 weeks after the creation of your account, or by the deadline of the clearing round, whichever is earlier.
How can I check my application status?
Applications are viewed from time to time. You would be notified if there are any updates on your application status. If you do not hear from us by July 31, 2025, you may assume your application unsuccessful.
Are there any scholarships available?
We offer Master of Science in Artificial intelligence Entrance Scholarship and Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence Outstanding Performance Scholarship. For details, please visit here.
The awardee(s) of the scholarships be nominated by the Selection Committee, instead of application.
How can I obtain a student visa?
Non-local students must obtain a visa in order to study in Hong Kong. You would not be allowed to attend any classes without a valid visa.
Please note that the processing time for student visa applications is approximately 10-12 weeks. You are advised to apply for one as soon as possible after accepting the offer of admission to study at HKU.
